Week #25- February 16th
Reminder: No school for students Monday, February 16th (Teacher Workday) and Tuesday, February 17th (Elementary Conferences)
As reading month approaches, we want to celebrate the work put in by our students and the growth they have accomplished because of that! As a reminder for reading at home, fluency matters! As students are building the foundation for reading, their fluency, or the rate at which they read, should increase. This can be easily practiced at home with “cold” reads of something on their level. A “cold” read is simply something that is read for the first time. As your student reads, put a timer on for a minute, and when the timer stops, count the words they read. This is their Words Per Minute. Doing this can also lead to many different conversations about words, and don’t forget to ask them about what they read to practice comprehension! Let’s keep turning pages, building confidence, and growing strong readers. Small moments of practice each day lead to reading success tomorrow.
Construction Update: Walls! A sizable crew from MH Masonry was on site this week to begin block work on the two additions. Foundation blocks are in place and this coming week you will begin to see walls rising. Plumbing work continued in the bathroom on the kindergarten hallway this week. Work in that area is progressing well. I continue to be impressed with the respect that construction workers, led by Lantz Construction, show to staff and students as they work. In addition, there are many safety and cleanliness features in place as they work. Thank you Lantz Construction!
