General Information

Welcome to McGaheysville Elementary! We're so glad you're here! Below, you will find information on registering your child in addition to any supporting documentation needed. Supporting documents can be dropped at the school or emailed to mesregistration@rockingham.k12.va.us. Questions can also be emailed to that address as well. If you have any questions, you can always reach us at 540-289-3004 during our regular office hours (8:00 am-4:00 pm). We look forward to welcoming your child and family to MES!

Documents Needed for Registration of a New Student to MES

1. Proof that you live in the MES Attendance Area

• Utility bill, rental agreement/lease, purchase agreement/mortgage statement

• PLEASE NOTE: Driver's Licences are not accepted for this purpose

2. A Copy of the Student's State Issued Birth Certificate

3. Previous School’s Name and Phone Number

4. Legal custody documents (if applicable)

*No registration is considered complete until we have all of these documents.

* Please also be sure you set an appointment for your student to have his/her physical and immunizations before the first day of school.

In addition to the above, PreK will also need the following information:

• Proof of Family Income Level is one of the requirements for VPI Prek that is set by the

state of Virginia. We are required to collect documentation of family income level.

• Recent pay stubs, W2s or most recent tax return

NOTE: Children will not be allowed to begin school without proof of current physical

and immunizations.

*No application/registration is considered complete until all of the documentation, screenings and questionaires are completed and submitted to the school. Any child/family with an incomplete application cannot be considered for eligibility into our PreK Program.

*Completing the application does not guarantee a place in the preschool program. After receiving the applications, further screenings will be scheduled.

PreK Screenings/Kindergarten Registration for the 2023-2024 School Year!

PreK Screenings

Children who will be four (4) years old on or before September 30, 2023

The following forms are required:

- Birth Certificate

- Proof of Residency

- Proof of Income for everyone working in the household

We will hold our first day of PreK screenings on Tuesday, March 7th, by appointment! If you would like to schedule an appointment for March 7th, please call the school at 540-289-3004, and make sure you have provided the school with each of the documents listed above prior to the day of the screening. If all appointments are filled on March 7th, we will schedule additional screening appointments at a later date. All of the above documents as well as the PreK screening are necessary to determine if a child qualifies for the program.

Kindergarten Registration

Children who will be five (5) years old on or before September 30, 2023

The following forms/documents are required:

- Birth Certificate

- Proof of Residency

Note: A copy of a current physical examination form (within 12 months prior to the first day of school) and a complete immunization record must be provided before a child begins school.

All families are encouraged to complete online registration using the link that will be provided on our website www.rcps.net starting March 6th (Be sure to select 2023-24 school year). If you are unable to access the online registration, you may come to MES on Monday, March 6th from 9:00-2:00 or Tuesday, March 7th from 9:00-5:00 and we will be happy to assist you!
